Barracuda Bulletin: Week of October 4

Student Spotlight

Fifth grader Sekhem Sewer Gibney joined the GHS community as a first grader. He says he appreciates his classmates’ and teachers’ sense of humor.

“Sekhem is a really good friend to all of his classmates,” says fifth grade teacher Ms. Christina. “He’s very inquisitive and he’s not afraid to step up and put in the work.”

Sekhem enjoys reading — fiction chapter books in particular — and says he’s now revisiting one of his favorites, Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Classmate Stone says Sekhem was a welcoming presence during Stone’s first year at GHS last year.

“He’s an awesome friend in general,” says Stone. “He’s easy to be around. He was very nice to me when I was new.”

Ms. Christina notes that Sekhem is emerging as a leader among his peers.

“His peers recognize that he has the qualities to be a good leader,” she says. “He is fair and has a good sense of right and wrong.”

“They see his integrity and they follow it naturally,” adds third grade teacher Ms. Robin, who previously taught Sekehm.

Sekhem says he enjoys PE because “you can run around and play sports.” He plays soccer with Castaways, and in his free time, Sekhem likes to read and draw.

Tenth, eleventh, and twelfth graders are invited to take an SAT tune-up on Saturday, October 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Upper Campus. This workshop is designed for sophomores through seniors planning to take the SAT or PSAT this year.
