Student Spotlight
This is pre-K student Josiah Sosa’s second year at GHS. He says he loves to play and draw at school.
“Ms. Sammy makes me happy,” he says of his teacher.
Josiah is always smiling and having fun, says Ms. Sammy.
“He loves to be in school,” she says. “When he’s working on something new, he gets so excited. He puts so much effort into his work.”
Ms. Sammy says Josiah is genuinely sweet and wants to make other people happy.
“He’s friends with everybody and is super friendly,” says Ms. Sammy. “He has his close group of friends but I can partner him with any one of his peers and he interacts very well with them.”
Ms. Sammy says she’s seen leadership qualities emerge in Josiah as he becomes more comfortable at school. Josiah loves to write and is able to complete tasks with excellent focus.
Josiah says he enjoys playing with friends and movement class with Ms. Bibi. During his free time, Josiah enjoys building with Legos and kicking a ball outside with his family.

NO SCHOOL MONDAY
School will be closed on Monday, November 11, in honor of Veterans Day. We extend our gratitude to all who have served and sacrificed to protect our nation's freedom, including our own facilities manager John McBarron, who served four years in the U.S. Army.
SECOND TRIMESTER AFTER-SCHOOL CLUBS, ACADEMIC SUPPORT TO BEGIN DECEMBER 2 AT BOTH CAMPUSES
Second trimester after-school clubs are set to begin at both campuses December 2.
At the Lower Campus, club fees are $15 a day and clubs run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sign-up forms are due November 15 and space is limited. There are no after-school clubs on Tuesdays. Here are the Lower Campus after-school club options that still have availability:
Mondays
Lego projects with Ms. Melisa and Ms. Amelie for kindergarten through fifth grade

Movement and yoga with Ms. G. for preschool and pre-K

Clubs at the Upper Campus have limited availability. Students should sign up in the office. Clubs will begin as close to 3:15 p.m. as possible and will end daily at 4:25 p.m. for a 4:30 p.m. parent pickup. Here are the Upper Campus after-school club options:

ACADEMIC AWARDS
Kudos to our Lower Campus students who met their October academic goals! After celebrating these students with our monthly academic awards assembly on Wednesday, two lucky winners from each class (one who met their reading goal and one who met their math goal) were chosen at random to enjoy an outdoor lunch at Catherineberg.
SHOWCASE NIGHT
Thank you to all the families who came out for our annual showcase night on Thursday! It was wonderful to see the students' enthusiasm as they toured the school with their families. The happy family atmosphere was a reminder of the wonderful GHS community we're all fortunate to be a part of, and the dishes everyone brought to share were delicious.

Kudos to our middle school flag football all-star team, which won their game on Tuesday 32-24! Naudy Castillo, Fox Fryman, Kallen Payne, Armani Pickering, and Trevor Tyrell Jr. represented GHS well.

WINTER SPORTS NOW ENROLLING

Boys basketball, middle school and varsity
Open to grades 6-12
Practice began on Tuesday and will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Pine Peace basketball court
Athletic dues must be turned in by today. Students who have not paid the athletic fee will be unable to participate in practice or games until the balance is paid.
Girls basketball, middle school and junior varsity
Open to grades 6-12
Practice begins November 12 and will take place Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:00 pm at the Lower Campus green top and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the Upper Campus basketball court

Coed cheerleading
Open to grades 6-12
Practice begins November 18 and will take place Mondays from 3:15 to 5:00 p.m. at the Upper Campus
Athletic dues must be turned in by November 22. Students who have not paid the athletic fee will be unable to participate in practice or games until the balance is paid.
Running club/track and field
Open to grades 3-12
Running club will continue on an open enrollment basis. Practices will take place on Thursdays going forward, with no practice during the Thanksgiving break.
November practice locations will include Susannaberg, Hawksnest, and possibly Trunk or Cinnamon Bay. Athletes should bring a towel and swimsuit for a chance to cool off in the water with supervision on beach days.
Track and field meets will begin in January.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY SATURDAY MORNING
Coral Bay Community Council, Get Trashed St. John, and the Coral Bay Yacht Club are hosting a Coastweeks Cleanup tomorrow, Saturday, November 9. Students who volunteer will be given community service hours. Volunteers should meet at the Skinny Legs parking lot at 9:00 a.m. with reusable water bottle, hat, hand sanitizer, and comfortable clothing including closed-toe shoes. FALL FEST SATURDAY IN CRUZ BAY
Sandy Cheeks LLC and The Pelican Post will host a fall fest this Saturday, November 9, from noon to 9:00 p.m. in front of The Pelican Post. There will be food, drinks, games, and arts and crafts as well as music by DJ Adonis. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.

WORLD OCEAN SCHOOL ENROLLING FOR WINTER AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
World Ocean School is enrolling for its Winter Ambassador Program, set for December 27, 2024 to January 3, 2025. Students age 16 to 19 are welcome to set sail aboard the Denis Sullivan in a program that begins and ends in St. Croix. No knowledge of sailing is required. Scholarships are available.
