Student travel is a valuable part of a Gifft Hill School education because we understand that preparing students for college and beyond cannot be achieved in the classroom alone. Many of our students have not experienced the world outside of the Caribbean, and for these students the travel opportunities GHS offers are especially important. Past trips include Washington DC, New York, the Grand Canyon, the Smokey Mountains, Mexico, London, Paris, Rome, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, and most recently, St. Croix and Uganda.

In March 2017, 12 Gifft Hill School students in grades 9-12 had the once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in a service learning trip to Uganda. Over the past 5 years, GHS in partnership with Iowa State University, has developed a wonderful relationship with the Namasagali School in the Kamuli Disctrict of
Uganda. Students have been writing to pen-pals, fundraising to help the Namasagali School purchase school supplies, and this year we were ready to take the next step and go visit our friends in person! The trip included visiting the Kamuli District and Namasagali School, during which time the students completed a service project in their school gardens, toured local villages, shadowed students at local schools, and joined in a pen-pal reunion. Students also traveled to the Queen Elizabeth National Park for a private, 3 day African safari. You can learn more about the trip by reading the updates below, including the final document that compiled all of the updates sent by the group while they were traveling.

We hope to return to Uganda with the next group of high school students in 2019!

*All GHS fundraising efforts are dedicated to supporting students' tuition assistance and essential programs. Students interested in participating in our travel program should plan early to work and save money to cover the trip costs.
